For this project, we were to seek and research methods and systems found in nature that could be applied to technology as a form of biomimicry.

I landed upon the concept of fishes eyes and how they utilize spherical lenses with a gradient of refractivity density. If we can create lenses with a variable refractive index, we could control and reduce the amount of aberrations in the lens quality by an incredible amount while reducing the amount of glass by an incredible amount allowing for a whole new range of optical instruments where the lens will no longer be the dominant feature of the design.

 

My end result is a camera housing that utilizes a one lens group system allowing for a great variety of applications without compromising any functionality.
